An Ocean Beach nonprofit corporation is seeking book donations for its fourth annual Back to School Book Drive to introduce the joy of reading to local kindergarteners.

“For the past three years, we have been able to put together bags of books for kindergarteners at Ocean Beach Elementary School,” said Connie Goldin, founder and president of Moms to Madres.

With the community’s help, Goldin said she is looking forward to handing out new bags of books when school resumes in September.

“It is such a pleasure to give children a beautiful book to take home,” Goldin said.

Donations of children’s books, in new or like-new condition, are being accepted from Aug. 1-16 for distribution in September.

Donors are asked to drop books at the Ocean Beach Business Center,

4876 Santa Monica Ave. Goldin said financial and in-kind donations will also be accepted.

Cash donations are accepted on the group’s website, www.momtomadre.org. More information is available at (619) 309-5151, or by email at info@momtomadre.org.

Goldin said she knows children who have books in their home are more likely to become good readers. She encourages parents to read to their children, introduce them to local library resources and add to the home book collection when possible.
