Playing a mod-inspired mix of soul and powerpop, you’d be hard pressed to find a band playing more hook-filled material than Orange County’s Suedehead. Appearing at The Griffin on Sept. 27, Suedehead’s way with a melody is refreshing. Each song it has released to date, like the dance-floor friendly “Can’t Stop,” sounds like a long-lost hit single, full of Motown’s driving beats and The Jam’s manic energy. Despite a clear nod to the mod sounds of the 1960s and ’80s, Suedehead is no retro act. This is music meant to get the heart pounding and the feet tapping. The group is easily one of the best bands out of California at the moment and well worth seeing live.
