Utility box beautification efforts can be marred

Dear garage saler, estate saler, pet sitter, dog walker, dog rescuer and flyer- or sign-putter-uppers:

The Point Loma Association sponsors a utility box beautification project, wherein dull and dingy utility boxes are transformed into outdoor works of art by local artists. Please be aware that when a flyer or sign is taped on to a painted box, there’s a very real possibility of the paint peeling off when the flyer is removed.

I found a garage-sale sign duct-taped to one of my favorite boxes at the corner of Catalina Boulevard and Canon Street. Unfortunately, when I removed the sign — very carefully — a piece of paint came with it.

These boxes are the product of hours of work on the part of volunteers and artists. Be nice to them!

If you have any questions about the utility box beautification project, please visit www.pointlomaassociation.com.
