MUST GO

If there is one can’t-miss-it event this summer, it might just be the Summer Solstice Soiree — a celebration of food, art, cocktails and stunning scenery at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) in La Jolla on June 20.

The dinner party will take place at the museum’s oceanfront terrace at 7 p.m. with mouthwatering dishes from local suppliers, specialty cocktails and an art installation by Brian Dick and Wendell Kling. Guests can also bid on contemporary design masterpieces in a silent auction.

The event, hosted by MCASD’s special-interest group Avant Garde, will benefit MCASD’s exhibition and education programs.

Tickets to the event are $100 for general admission and $75 for Avant Garde members. VIP “Velvet Rope” tickets are $150 for general admission and $125 for Avant Garde members. MCASD La Jolla is located at 700 Prospect St. For more information, visit www.mcasd.org or call (858) 454-3541.

MUST HEAR

As part of the La Jolla Community Center’s Distinguished Speaker Series, Supervisor Ron Roberts invites residents to hear him speak about the state of the county’s finances and its operations, from libraries to air quality. Roberts represents the county’s Fourth District and is serving this year as board chairman. After a 20-year career in architecture, Roberts served two terms on the City Council, representing District 2. Roberts is known for his commitments to fiscal discipline, at-risk youth, senior issues, clean air and long-range planning. His goals in regional transit include building an extension of the trolley from Old Town to UCSD and University Towne Center.

Roberts will speak at the La Jolla Community Center, 6811 La Jolla Blvd., on June 20 at 5 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments served. Sponsored by Sunrise of La Jolla. To RSVP, call (858) 459-0831. Suggested donation $5.
