“PACIFIC BEACH OPENS WAR ON BILLBOARDS,” read the headline in the July 12, 1919 issue of the San Diego Union. The demise of the train to La Jolla a year earlier must really have increased the traffic on Highway 1, which ran south on Cass Street and east on Garnet Avenue. The photo shows the southwest corner of Garnet and Cass, probably in the late 1920s. Read the article and more in the November issue of the Pacific Beach Historical Society newsletter.
