Lust For Life members say they are committed to donating time and proceeds to benefit organizations in need. The cover band plays energetic rock music from grunge to The Black Keys.
Correia instrumental music has benefited twice this year from the band and has benefited from donations to public school music. There is no funding for secondary music education from the school district.
The district pays for music teachers, but not music program costs. Instrument and instrument repair are just one of the many items necessary to make a music program successful. Members of Lust for Life include Kerry McKay, Marisa Vernec, Scott Meyer, Vince Escalera, Kirk Norton and Dennis Key.
Correia instrumental music has grown in the past eight years under the direction of Marc Dwyer.
Dwyer received the California Music Educators Association Jazz Teacher of the Year for Southern California Award in 2011.
School officials said Correia offers orchestra, beginning, intermediate, advanced concert band, jazz band and guitar classes.
There will be two spring concerts this year. The first concert will include the orchestra and the flute choir and all the concert and jazz bands. It will be held Thursday, May 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cougar auditorium.
The second concert will be Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and will feature beginning and intermediate guitar and the percussion ensemble.
