Correia Middle School hosts its spring guitar and choral concert at 6:30 p.m., as the award-winning guitar ensemble and new choir take the stage. Come early for dinner and refreshments in the courtyard and enter a raffle for exciting prizes. All proceeds benefit the Correia instrumental music programs. For more information, visit


Humphreys Backstage Live will host the second annual “Groovin’ on the Point” event from 2 to 7 p.m. This benefit concert will feature the award-winning Correia Middle School jazz band and the Correia Middle School intermediate guitar class. Along with these talented students,The First Friday Music Club, directed by professional musician and bassist Glen Fisher, will feature some of its amazing kids’ bands. The Peninsula has an abundance of musical talent, with support from the community and parents. SUNDAY, June 1

All Souls Episcopal Church will host an Empty Bowls event. Handmade pottery bowls donated by local artists will be available for sale between services from 9:15 a.m. until noon. There will also be a continental breakfast for the guests. The money raised will be donated to TACO (Third Avenue Charitable Organization toward efforts to feed the homeless, low-income elderly and working poor in downtown San Diego. Shades Oceanfront Bistro will host a pet-adoption event from 10 a.m. to

2 p.m. Shades received the 2014 Animal Compassion Award from The San Diego Humane Society in March, and with The Food Network doing a dog-themed show at Shades this month (airing next season), event organizers are hoping for a healthy turnout. Participating organizations include Second Chance Dog Rescue, Labrador Rescuers, SD Spaniel Rescue and Almost Home Animal Rescue. Shades is located at 5083 Santa Monica Ave., No. 1F. Point Loma Assembly Tea from 4 to 6 p.m. at 3035 Talbot St., featuring entertainment by the wildly popular Pizarro Brothers. The Pizarro Brothers began studying classical music at the age of 3 and a half. They started performing duets on one piano in 2003, when Dominic was 7 years old and Angelo 4. The duet has been featured on CBS, Fox News and KUSI and has performed for numerous charities and special events, including Make a Wish Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The musicians have been inspired by music greats like Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Ray Charles and Billy Strayhorn. Admission for non-members is $15. For more information, visit
