“Guess the Celebrity Cyclops,” blares page 58 of Steve Breen's "Unicorn Executions, and Other Crazy Stuff My Kids Make Me Draw" – and somehow, some way, you will (give yourself half a second and you'll see this one's recognizable as Gwyneth Paltrow). The kids, of course, are behind the illustrated book's coolness; their stream-of-consciousness ideas range from Betty White punching out a silverback gorilla to a belch-off between a middle-aged fat guy and a dragon. San Diego's Breen, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and illustrator, is just acting out here on behalf of his children, whom humorist Simon Rich describes in the liner notes as “geniuses.” If you were at La Jolla's Warwick's Books on Tuesday, May 27, you may have gained more insight into that claim than most, as Breen made an appearance there.
