Several scholastic teams were the hit of the 2014 season

Several area scholastic baseball teams had some big hits during the 2014 campaign.

In recent CIF Division II play, fourth-seeded La Jolla High lost to Eastlake by a 10-5 score. Despite the loss, the Vikings put together a solid season under head coach Gary Frank at 21-10 and won their fifth Western League crown.

La Jolla opened CIF play with a 5-3 win over Eastlake and then dropped a 7-2 decision to El Camino before being eliminated in its second encounter with Eastlake. Eastlake broke a 5-5 tie in the second meeting with two runs in the fifth inning and three in the seventh.

At The Bishop’s School, the Knights suffered a 5-1 loss to Southwest in the CIF Division IV playoffs late last month. Bishop’s posted a 12-15 overall mark, 2-8 in Coastal League South play.

At La Jolla Country Day School, the Torreys came in at 15-11, 7-3 in Coastal League South action.

On the softball diamond, The Bishop’s School compiled a stellar 22-2 mark, including 7-1 in Coastal League action.

In the CIF Division IV playoffs, the Lady Knights dropped a 5-1 decision in late May to Central High.
