Lena Evans, La Jolla Village News' new society editor, has a camera, a colossal network of friends and a bundle of ideas. Her first assignment, Rendezvous in the Zoo (R*I*T*Z), is San Diego Zoo Global's annual black-tie fundraiser, which will benefit animals from the savannah and cliff areas of the zoo's Conrad Prebys Africa Rocks exhibit, and La Jolla is well-represented.

This year's event raised $1.4 million for the cause -- and since its founding in 1984, R*I*T*Z has raised more than $14 million for the San Diego Zoo and its conservation, veterinary and education enterprises. This year, prominent La Jolla names presented the fundraising challenge, one of the evening's premiere installments. Acclaimed animal and conservation envoy Joan Embery, the music of Wayne Foster Entertainment and a silent auction were on tap – and Lena's dynamic pictures tell the story in this week's edition. Do not miss!
