A family was observing the holiday lights located on the south side of 4700 Newport Ave., from the north side of the street about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 17. The victim, a 7-year-old boy, left a place of safety and stepped from the north curb into the street. The victim was struck by a 55-year-old male, driving his 2006 gray Lexus westbound at the 4700 block of Newport Avenue.

The victim sustained a serious injury to his left leg and was transported to a local hospital by medics. No DUI is suspected. Traffic Division responded and are investigating the collision.

The little boy broke his leg. Our thoughts are with him and his family. Certainly not how the planned to spend the holidays.

We see cars speeding around this area all the time. With two of my own safety is always a concern.
