Earlier this month at the French Open in Paris, Anisimova stunned defending champion Simona Halep of Romania 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals, where she fell to eventual champion Ashleigh Barty of Australia 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3.

Anisimova is no stranger to San Diego. In 2016, she competed in the USTA Billie Jean King Girls' 18s National Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma, where she reached the singles semifinals.
