Welcome to the College Times Courier! We hope you find our new monthly publication a source of exclusive local news and features that will keep you, the readers, up to date on the issues that affect your neighborhoods.
College Times Courier is the ninth publication of the San Diego Community News Group (SDCNG), which has a decades-long history of producing award-winning journalism with papers that stretch from La Jolla to La Mesa.
It was our publications’ reputations for excellence that brought us to the College Area and onto your porches, driveways and newspaper racks in your shopping and community centers. In July of this year, College Area Community Council members Jose Reynoso and Saul Amerling approached SDCNG with the idea of bringing back coverage of and distribution to the College Area by the Mission Times Courier, which covers the Navajo communities, but at one time had also included the College Area under former publisher Jim Madaffer.
Instead, SDCNG publisher Julie Main sees the College Area as a unique region that deserves its own publication that would focus on the many interesting and exciting developments in its neighborhoods.
Reynoso and Amerling, along with College Area Business District President Jim Schneider and local Realtor Sarah Ward, told us they were interested in having SDCNG cover community news in the College Area because their neighborhoods were lacking a solid, legitimate source to fulfill those needs.
Heading up the editorial team for this new publication is editor Jeff Clemetson, who also leads the College Times Courier’s sister publications, Mission Times Courier and La Mesa Courier. To pitch stories or send letters to the editor, reach him at firstname.lastname@example.org
The advertising sales rep for College Times Courier is Lauren Vernon, who joined the SDCNG team in August. You can reach her to fill your local advertising and marketing needs at email@example.com. We encourage you to support your local businesses that make it possible to provide you with your own local newspaper.
We hope you enjoy reading the first edition of the College Times Courier. We will provide the kind of community-building journalism that we have brought to all of the SDCNG publications.
It is our belief that community newspapers serve an important role in connecting people, not only through shared proximity, but shared values and interests. We view newspapers as an important thread in the fabric of a community — and the College Area deserves that thread to be as strong and legitimate as the College Area community itself.
