UC San Diego's women's soccer team has jumped to No. 1 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DII poll. The Tritons were previously ranked third in the preseason poll and the first edition of the poll, which was revealed on Sept. 10. With its 4-0-0 record, UC San Diego passed Grand Valley State and Columbus State, who both fell to 3-1-0 in the past week. The current top three is rounded out by the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (4-0-0) and Minnesota State University – Mankato (3-0-0).
This is the Tritons' first number-one national ranking since Oct. 2, 2018. Last season, UC San Diego was ranked first in the fourth and fifth weeks of the season.
UC San Diego's move to the top comes following an undefeated start to the season. After picking up a pair of shutout wins at home over Concordia University Irvine and Biola University, the Tritons nabbed a thrilling 3-2 win at Azusa Pacific off a late penalty kick goal by Natalie Saddic. UC San Diego followed up by keeping its winning streak intact against Simon Fraser at home, collecting another clean sheet in a 3-0 win.
