La Jolla High School junior Briana Wright was named a finalist in the San Diego Junior Miss Program for being an "all-around" talented individual. She was awarded $1,000 in college scholarships, and will proceed to the state level, where she vies for more than $40,000 in scholarships.

Wright competed against 26 other students in dance, self-expression, talent, interview and scholastics, and is one of four from San Diego County who was chosen as a finalist.

The winner of the California Junior Miss Program will travel to Alabama for the 48th annual America's Junior Miss Program. The national winner will receive $50,000 in scholarships.

Wright plans to study journalism at the University of Virginia.
