Tree ornaments will benefit good cause

The La Jolla Christmas tree outside the recreation center, 615 Prospect St., will be lit during a festive ceremony next Thursday, Dec. 13, 6 p.m.

The tree, which is now 60 feet tall, was a gift to the community from La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club. Two years ago, GDC Construction and La Jolla Parks and Recreation Inc. paid for the electrical system to light the tree.

This year, GDC Construction will sell and hang ornaments for the tree, with proceeds going to San Diego Habitat for Humanity to help with reconstruction after October's wildfires.

The ornaments, which come in three sizes ($10, $25 and $50), will be available for purchase at the tree-lighting ceremony and through Dec. 21 at the GDC office, 1031 Silverado St.

Checks should be made payable to San Diego Habitat for Humanity.
