For the boys and girls soccer teams at Mission Bay High, a new season is here. And the respective coaches see a lot of potential for the 2017-18 campaign.
On the girls’ side, head coach Jorge Palacios has a team coming off a season in which it went 23-4-1 and won the City League championship. According to Palacios, key players this season include Jeryn Young, Lina Rodriguez, Alex Fisher, and Cat Griffiths.
“Our goals include competing in a new league and division after having been moved up from last year, and having a great time doing it,” Palacios commented.
Mission Bay is slated to host River Valley High (Dec. 4), Hoover High (Dec. 6), and visit Escondido High (Dec. 11).
On the boys’ side, head coach Joe Panian’s team went 12-7 a season ago, making it to the CIF quarterfinals.
According to Panian, key players this season look to be senior Saul Camacho (forward), and juniors Enrique Moreno (midfielder) and Victor Lopez (defender).
“Goals for the year are for the players to develop regarding tactical awareness, speed of play, and decision-making,” Panian stated. “Our goals are to finish in the top three of league and make it to the finals of CIFs with the hope of winning it all.”
Mission Bay will visit Gompers Prep (Dec. 6) and Madison High (Dec. 8), respectively, in upcoming action.
