With the regular season down to a handful of games, the Mission Bay softball and baseball teams are making their moves for the CIF playoffs.
On the softball diamond, head coach Vince Ichihara’s team came into action this week with an overall mark of 12-8-2. “We are 9-0 in league and on course to win the league championship with only three games left in league against all teams we have run-ruled so far,” Ichihara commented. “We are currently ranked fourth in our division after recently beating top-ranked Division IV Coronado 2-1 in eight innings.”
According to Ichihara, Cassidy West continues to dominate in the circle with a 0.91 ERA and 134 strikeouts. West also is batting .548 to date.
Mission Bay’s offensive attack has four girls (Kiki Flores, Maya Cota, Cheyenne Chavez and Serena Castro) all batting over .400. Paige Parkhill and Cat Griffiths both respectively are in the .300s and contribute to a great team batting average of .379. Jessi Grigolite and JP Perez have had a few clutch hits this season so far that have decided a few outcomes. “Playoffs are a couple weeks away and we look to finish strong and get a league title for the school,” Ichihara added. On the baseball diamond, head coach Dennis Pugh’s squad was 12-9-1 entering the week. The Bucs are 5-6-1 at home and 7-3 on the road.
Mission Bay is riding a winning streak, including wins last week over Hoover and Crawford, respectively.
On the schedule this week, Mission Bay will visit Lincoln High on Thursday.
According to Pugh, the Bucs are getting contributions from all players seeing action.
