For the first time in its more than 50-year history, Point Loma Association is changing up the format for its annual fundraiser, to be held Thursday, Oct. 1 at Coasterra on Harbor Island, transforming it from a dinner into a cocktail party.
Ticket cost for Visions of Point Loma is $100 per person. To purchase tickets for the Visions fundraiser, go to pointlomassociation.com. Those with questions may call (619) 226-4896. All proceeds benefit the association.
The event is to be held at the new $15 million bayfront Mexican restaurant at 880 Harbor Island Drive. It will feature delicious food, stunning views and fun activities. Coasterra, a restaurant and event center next to Island Prime and C Level on Harbor Island, is the latest endeavor by David and Lesley Cohn and talented Chef Deborah Scott
“‘Eat. Drink. Chat. Give’ is a great description of what we want Visions of Point Loma to be,” said event co-chair Kerri De Rosier. “We want people to mingle and have fun. Guests will be greeted by the Point Loma High School Jazz Ensemble and Sea Scouts and then stroll the beautiful venue, where they can shop at our ‘PLA store,’ stocked with items the PLA needs, prove their knowledge of Point Loma history, bid on fun live auction items and visit with neighbors.”
Fundraising proceeds go toward the association’s many projects.
“The PLA is getting pretty good at replacing ugly, weed-filled blacktop medians with stunning, drought-tolerant landscaping and hardscaping,” said De Rosier. “With proceeds from Visions of Point Loma, we hope to continue beautifying our community.”
The fundraiser will feature a live auction offering five nights at a Park City, Utah condo (10 people, no date restrictions), a weekend away at a Julian condo, a two-hour project from the Mean Green Team, a Woodfired Pizza Party for eight on the bay, a Pinot Party for eight and a Zoo Safari for four.
The association is partnering with Ace Hardware to provide items for the association store, such as Mean Green Team vests, pruners, paint, fertilizer, power tools, mulch and rose food. Ace Hardware Point Loma is generously offering a 20 percent discount on all purchases except power tools. And they’re offering a 10 percent discount on those.
The event will also honor six Beautification Award winners for their contributions to Peninsula community: Coasterra, San Diego County Waterfront Park, Culture Brewing Company in Ocean Beach, the San Salvador, PLNU Science Complex and the VEER Apartments and Condos on Saratoga Street.
Parking at the venue is all valet at $8 per car. The association is offering shuttle service from the overflow lot by the Sheraton at the corner of Harbor Drive and Harbor Island Drive, sponsored by the Point Loma Summer Concerts.
Created in 1961, the association comprises residents and businesses committed to improving the quality of life in Point Loma through beautification, education, charitable activities and civic collaboration.
