LA JOLLA — The office of San Diego City Councilwoman Sherri Lightner will hold a Business Improvement District (BID) workshop on Thursday, Oct. 21, in which La Jolla merchants are invited to see what other BID non-profits in other parts of San Diego are doing. “The idea for this upcoming Business Improvement District workshop is to get people excited about the possibilities for La Jolla,” said Lightner about the free event, which will take place at 6 p.m. at the La Jolla Recreation Center, located at 615 Prospect St. Lightner said she would like to use this workshop to inform local business owners about the opportunities for a new nonprofit to replace Promote La Jolla (PLJ), the currently insolvent group that acted as an advisory board to the city-managed BID. The city continues to investigate the actions of the former PLJ board, which the city auditor charged with misappropriating $112,070 in funds. PLJ voted last month to declare bankruptcy if it can’t resolve the city’s claim. The workshop will highlight events, activities and services, such as street fairs and beautification projects, that the Village could use to promote itself and increase marketability.
