County calls for more Cool Zones
The County of San Diego is currently seeking sites with air conditioning where seniors can retreat on hot days.
Also known as Cool Zones, the locations include libraries, senior centers and nutrition sites that provide seating.
Because many sites are not open on weekends, the county is soliciting additional volunteers to provide continuous refuge from the dangerously high temperatures, which can adversely affect the elderly or individuals with poor health.
Businesses will be considered as long as there is no expectation of patronage.
Local Cool Zones include the La Jolla Riford Library, 7555 Draper Ave.
For more information on sites or participation, contact the Cool Zone program, (800) 510-2020. More Cool Zones throughout the county are listed under services at www.sdcounty.ca.gov/hhsa.
