After a couple of months off for summer break, countless San Diego State University students were spotted on campus recently as the 2023-24 school year kicked off.
Thousands of students returned to campus late last month, although the first day of school was not what they were expecting.
While classes were scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 21, school officials made the switch to virtual instruction in anticipation of Hurricane Hilary. This resulted in many students attending their first courses of the new school year over videoconferencing platforms. Many campus buildings were also closed, including the library and gym, leading to a quiet day on a typically lively campus.
However, as the weather stabilized, in-person classes were held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, bringing the campus back to the active community it had been last year.
