San Diego Wave forward Jaedyn Shaw scored her first goal as a member of the senior US women’s national team on Sunday in a 3-0 victory over Colombia at Snapdragon Stadium. This game was the second for the 18-year-old sensation representing the stars and stripes as she got to play alongside Wave teammates Alex Morgan and NWSL MVP finalist Naomi Girma.
Shaw has scored nine goals since joining the Wave in 2022 including six this season, which is second-best on the team, trailing the seven goals scored by Morgan. Shaw scored her goal in the 83rd minute after streaking by the Colombian defense and lobbing the ball over the head of goalkeeper Sandra Sepúlveda, all initiated from a pass by Angel City FC forward Alyssa Thompson.
San Diego native and former Tigres Femenil forward Mia Fishel and Club Lyon midfielder Lindsey Horan also pitched in with one goal each in the match versus Colombia on Sunday after the two national teams settled for a scoreless draw on October 26 at America First Field in Utah.
San Diego FC will have all its internationals back for the semifinal playoff game against OL Reign on Sunday, Nov. 5 at Snapdragon Stadium. The Wave finished as the top-seed and won the Supporters’ Shield in only its second year after a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville in the regular season finale where both Shaw and Morgan scored.
