Christian Gonzales, a violin student from Juilliard School, is back to El Cajon where he grew up, to perform with his first orchestra – the East County Youth Symphony – as a soloist.
“Our concert on November 15th at the Kroc Theater is a celebration of Christian’s success, his extraordinary talent, his hard work, and his passion for violin and classical music. It is also a huge event for the East County Youth Symphony. ECYS was founded sixteen years ago, and Christian is our first alumnus who was accepted to Juilliard” – said Alexandra Keegan, co-founder and artistic director of the East County Youth Symphony.
The show will take place Nov. 15, 7 p.m., at the Joan B. Kroc Theater (6611 University Ave.).

Gonzales is establishing a multi-faceted career as a performer and educator. He is a graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and is currently a master’s student at the Juilliard School under Areta Zhulla. Based in El Cajon, Gonzales started violin at the age of 10.
Membership in East County Youth Symphony is absolutely free, there are no fees or tuition required. It’s open to all musicians, ages 7 to 25, who wish to audition. Current members range from relative beginners to some of San Diego County’s finest young musicians and come from 39 different schools.
Every musician in East County Youth Symphony upper divisions performs in a Symphony Orchestra. In addition, participation in ensembles and/or Chamber Orchestra is encouraged. All ECYS programs and ensembles are absolutely free.
The East County Youth Symphony orchestras rehearse weekly and perform 8-10 concerts a year, while the Chamber Orchestra and Ensembles perform year round at a variety of venues.
