On Wednesday, March 6, USA beat Canada 3-1 on penalties after the game remained tied 2-2 after extra time. Rain throughout the first half made the field at Snapdragon Stadium borderline unplayable. Jaedyn Shaw scored in the first half after a puddle stopped a back pass to Canada’s keeper. Canada equalized late in the second half to force extra time. Sophia Smith scored in the first period of extra time. Canada converted a penalty in the final moments of the second period of extra time to send the game to penalties. Alyssa Naeher worked miracles and saved three penalties and scored one herself to secure the win.
