The San Diego Mojo has managed to turn its season around in dramatic fashion winning its fourth match in the last five including a dramatic 3-2 road victory over the Orlando Valkyries at Addition Financial Arena on Sunday night.
After taking the first set 25-23, Mojo dropped the second-set 25-21 before bouncing back strong to take the third set 25-19. Orlando then clawed it’s way back by taking the fourth-set 25-21 with the fifth and deciding set finishing 18-16 in favor of the visitors. The victory over the Valkyries avenged the home defeat the team suffered to Orlando on March 11. The Mojo has managed to climb in the standings and is in fourth place just one win away from .500 after starting the season 4-8.
The impressive turnaround began on April 2 when Mojo defeated the Omaha Supernovas 3-1 at home and followed that up with a 3-1 victory over Columbus Fury on April 7 at Viejas Arena in the second match of their homestand. After falling to the Atlanta Vibe on April 10 the team, led by head coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park, then came out with back-to-back victories over Columbus Fury on April 12 and then Valkyries.
The Mojo has nine regular-season games remaining with four at home including a three-match homestand starting on April 23 versus the Omaha Supernovas followed by a game against the Vegas Thrill on April 26 and then versus the Orlando Valkyries on April 29. The Mojo plays its final regular season home game on May 7 against the Columbus Fury and close out on the road with a rematch versus Columbus on May 11.
