Now you can take a different kind of plunge at Fit Athletic Club at Belmont Park in Mission Beach.

And it’s a chilling experience, as Fit Athletic Club has invested in four state-of-the-art Qoolpod tubs, using water temperature down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit, just 5 degrees above the freezing point of water. Available on a first-come, first-served basis, the cold tubs are near the Plunge pool inside the health club at 3115 Ocean Front Walk in the amusement park.

“The best method is just to fully submerge yourself as soon as possible, at least up to the neck,” said Fit sales director Raushike Michaels, who likened the stimulating effects of taking the cold plunge to drinking a cup of coffee. “That way the body can fully adapt to the cold temperature of the tub,” he said adding, “The first 30 seconds are always going to be a little rough – but if you can break past that threshold, then that’s when your body is going to start to adapt.”
