The San Diego Mojo (10-11) is one victory away from locking up a playoff spot after splitting the two-game series versus the Grand Rapids Rise (11-12) over the weekend at Van Andel Arena.
San Diego will attempt to clinch the post-season on Tuesday, May 7 at Viejas Arena when it takes on the Columbus Fury for the third time this season after winning the first two meetings.
The split against Grand Rapids locked up a post-season birth for the team from Michigan, which won the second match that was played on Sunday 3-0 after losing to the Mojo 3-1 the day before.
As things stand, San Diego would need to lose all three of its remaining games, including two versus the team from Ohio, to miss the postseason. If that were to occur, Columbus would still need to go undefeated in its final three matches, which includes a meeting against the second-seeded Omaha Supernovas, in order to take the spot from the Mojo.
San Diego Mojo hopes that the regular season finale versus the Fury on May 11 at Nationwide Arena will be nothing more than formality with the top four teams earning a trip to the inaugural PVF championship tournament being played at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb.
CHI Health Center is also the home of the Supernovas, which has already locked up the second-seed in the postseason as Atlanta already finished with the best record at 19-5 including a league-leading 10 sweeps. The match between the San Diego Mojo and Columbus Fury starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
