The Pointer baseball team received a No. 1 seed in Div. II to lead a large number of teams in spring CIF playoff action.
BASEBALL: Ranked as the top Div. II team, received a first-round bye and hosted the winner of No. 8 Mt. Carmel vs. No. 9 Scripps Ranch’s play-in game this Wednesday. If the Pointers win, they host a third-round game on May 17 at 3:30 p.m. Finals are on May 24 at UCSD’s Triton Field at 7 p.m.
SOFTBALL: Seeded No. 2 in Div. III, received a first-round bye and hosted winner of No. 10 Southwest (El Centro) vs. No. 7 Grossmont Wednesday May 15. If they win, will host a second round game on May 17 at 3:30 p.m. Finals are May 23 at UCSD’s Triton Field at 7:30 p.m.
BOYS LACROSSE: Ranked No. 2 in Div. II, after first round bye defeated No. 7 Eastlake 11-7 May 10, hosted No. 3 Santana this week in semifinals, winner goes to finals at San Dieguito Academy at 2:30 p.m. on May 18.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Received No. 4 seed in Div. II and a first-round bye. Defeated 12-9 at home on May 10 by No. 5 Canyon Crest Academy.
GIRLS BEACH VOLLEYBALL: After receiving the No. 7 seed in Div. I, defeated No. 10 Canyon Crest Academy 5-0, No. 2 Eastlake 4-1, and No. 3 Mission Bay 4-1 before losing to No. 4 Scripps Ranch in the championship match on May 4.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Ranked No. 2 in Div. V, the Pointers eliminated No. 10 Castle Park 3-0 and No. 3 San Ysidro 3-0 before losing a hard-fought 3-1 match to Lincoln in the championship match on May 9 at Southwestern College.
GIRLS SWIMMING: CIF Div. II championships. As a team, the Pointers recorded 184 points at the event for third place overall. The 200 yard relay team of McKenna Carroll, Sienna Borchert, Martina Divis and Celia Thome finished third in a time of 1:49.09. The same group took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:36.74.McKenna won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:52.69 while Divis took second just .30 seconds later in 1:52.99. McKenna took third place in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.00 seconds, Thome finishing seventh.
BOYS SWIMMING: Div. II CIF championships. The team also took third place with 207 points. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Aiden Griffith, Leon Chen, Alex Pletcher and Andrew Bockstahler took first place in a time of 1:25.36. Pletcher won the 200 yard freestyle by three seconds in 1:38.73 and the 100 yard freestyle in 45.22. Griffith won the 200-yard IM race in 1:49.59 while Chen finished seventh. Bockstahler finished second in the 50-yard freestyle by just .01 second in 21.46. Divis finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:04.72 with Borchert in fifth place. Griffith also won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.08.
BOYS TENNIS: A No. 12 seed in Div. I, the Pointers lost their first round match 13-5 to No. 5 Carlsbad.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD: In the most recent available results from CIF Div. II finals on May 11, Gabriel Xavier took third in the 800M race in 1:58.77. At 1600M Jonah Turner was sixth in 4:29.04. Wade Mettler was eighth in the 300M hurdles at 40.85. The 4X400M relay team of Xavier, Turner, Romeo Postolis Carter, and Diego Cardenas-Wallenfelt finished eighth in 3:29.99. The 4 by 800 relay team of Christopher Ramsey, Toby Feller, Xavier, and Cardenas-Wallenfelt took second place in 8:14.13. In the triple jump, Donovan Wood and Andrew Weim took second and third respectively with distances of 43 feet 7 inches and 43 feet 5.25 inches.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD: In the same May 11 event, Karolina Gates took tenth in the 100M at 12.52 seconds. Isabella Ramos was tenth in the 3200M race at 11:20.27. Gates took second in the 100M hurdles in 15.02 and also in the 300M hurdles in 45.82. The 4 by 800 relay team of Nicole Witt, Katherine Lapic, Annie Guhse, and Maia Keepper finished fifth in 10:07.31 and Gisele Martinez took tenth in the high jump at 4 feet 6 inches.
