Sunny San Diego is coming in with full force as June rolls around! Locals and visitors alike are ready to bask in the city’s beautiful weather all month long. Brimming with fun activities, relaxing patios and an active atmosphere, San Diego’s East Village is the ultimate neighborhood to enjoy June to the fullest.
Outdoor spaces
East Village is widely known as the home of one of the most picturesque ballparks in the country, Petco Park. Cheer on the Padres all summer long and take in the panoramic views of San Diego or explore the newly transformed Gallagher Square. With an expanded playground, off-leashed dog park, an improved play ball field, temporary pickleball courts and the Tony Gwynn terrace viewing deck and picnic space, Gallagher Square will soon become one of your go-to hang out spots of the summer. Check the monthly schedule to see when it will be open to the public.
Boasting a spacious outdoor patio to enjoy a refreshing breeze or bask in the summer rays, Knotty Barrel has been a staple in the East Village neighborhood for over a decade. Along with the lively atmosphere, the beloved gastropub and tasting room features fresh, locally sourced ingredients as well as over 100 domestic and imported brews, including over 20 craft beers on tap. Bring your friends to enjoy a fun summer afternoon in East Village before you hit the ballpark or head out for a night on the town.
If you can’t get enough of the famous Mexican bacon wrapped hot dogs, head over to Doggos Gus. The outdoor dining venue offers an expansive patio with various picnic tables to sit around and enjoy your bites under the summer sun. Not to mention, its conveniently located next to The Lost Abbey where you can sample a variety of fresh brews from 32 different taps. Nothing quite pairs together as well as an IPA and a gourmet hot dog.
Home to an eatery, a full-service beer garden, art space and a coffee shop, Quartyard is another great spot to sit back and relax. The captivating urban park and outdoor event venue has become a vibrant outdoor community space hosting a variety of cultural events, outdoor concerts, street markets and community activities.
For a serene escape within the urban sprawl, explore the delightful public parks and green spaces in East Village. Fault Line Park stands out as a great place to enjoy the summer sun, providing 1.3 acres of lush greenery amidst the bustling city. Be sure not to overlook the captivating artistic installation gracing the park, “Fault Whisper,” which tracks fault movement of the Rose Canyon Fault System below. Plus, popular neighborhood gem, IZOLA, is set to relaunch in their new location adjacent to the park. Celebrated for their aromatic sourdough loaves and buttery croissants, IZOLA will soon be opening their doors, offering a variety of new flavor releases and tempting treats for the community to enjoy.
