The popular and beloved player Hirving “Chucky” Lozano took questions from reporters during a press conference held on Thursday, June 13 at the Snapdragon Stadium after it was made known that he would be joining Major League Soccer club San Diego FC starting in 2025.
With extraordinary simplicity combined with tears of joy and always showing love for his family (his wife Ana and his children Daniela and Rodrigo, sitting in front), Lozano gave a deep sense of humility as he spoke with those attending.
Still playing with PSV Eindhoven soccer club from the Netherlands, where he has won championships twice, Lozano referenced what encouraged him to sign a four-year contract with San Diego FC through 2028.
“I had different offers, but I think this one fulfilled me a lot because I felt very identified in all aspects. The truth is that was the most important thing and I think that the people of the city are also very wonderful.”
Lozano, who is 28 years old, also smiled on several occasions including when San Diego FC owner Mohamed Mansour issued a message through video about his qualities as a player and as a person.
This brought a spontaneous reaction of gratefulness to the Mexico City native who made El Tri fans explode in ecstasy as he scored what is considered the most memorable goal ever for the Mexican national team which came against the then defending world champion German national team in the 2018 World Cup.
Besides winning championships with PSV, Lozano has also lifted the league title with Napoli in Italy and with Pachuca of Liga MX. Among his many accolades are being named CONCACAF Men’s Player of the Year in 2018 and the best eleven in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021.
The local soccer fans also got a chance to celebrate his arrival later that night at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park where Lozano took photos and interacted with those attending.
