Husband-and-wife team Dr. Sonia Gupte and Jit Gupte were both successful professionals in Dubai who found something missing in their lives.
That realization led them on a quest for personal transformation and greater meaning culminating in their creation of enso-nia, a new hypnotherapy center at 7858 Ivanhoe Ave. In their La Jolla facility, the pair administer deep healing to others through clinical hypnotherapy sessions. They also pass along their knowledge educating pupils to acquire world-class certification in integrated critical hypnotherapy.
Sonia was a family physician for 15 years and has spent eight years as a clinical hypnotherapist with over 2,000 highly successful cases worldwide. Her experience allows her to treat numerous health, emotional, and behavioral issues with all age groups.
Jit, who had been heading up a successful architectural practice in Dubai, characterized his and Sonia’s decision to embark on completely new careers and immigrate to the United States to begin again as “a phenomenal leap of faith.”
“We have been in business about six years coming to San Diego and migrating with our family from Dubai,” said Jit adding, “We were doing it (hypnotherapy) as an online service.”
Of their journey, Jit noted, “We had pretty much everything anyone would want.”
“But something was missing,” pointed out Sonia, who’d become disillusioned treating people with medications. She thought, “Perhaps this is not what we’re meant to do. Something bigger is calling us.”
The couple’s two-part business name has special significance. ENSO in Zen is a circle symbolizing when “the mind is free to let the body create and express its complete creative potential.” NIA has multi-cultural meanings representing love, purpose, and dedication to building and restoring the community, which is enso-nia’s core philosophy.
On their website, enso-nia.com, the couple lays out their mission stating they are “dedicated to providing breakthrough tools in harnessing the hidden power of the human subconscious mind to create extraordinary transformations in all areas of life. Sonia’s relentless quest to discover a deeper connection between the body and mind led her into clinical hypnotherapy. This soon became for her that ‘fundamental, missing bridge’ providing all the answers to unexplained chronic health conditions in her patients.”
Their website states enso-nia “brings together Sonia’s expertise and that of world-leading experts, to bring powerful tools to everyone in need, looking to transform their lives and live their greatest potential, as well as to offer world-class professional education that will help to create agents of transformation and revolutionize the field of health and well being.”
Sonia noted patient’s attitudes toward treatment methods have changed post-pandemic, pointing out people are now saying, “I don’t want to be dependent on prescriptions.” “I used to be on the other side writing prescriptions,” she added concluding, “I saw that I was not helping, it was prescription dependency.”
Through clinical hypnotherapy, Sonia said she has found her true calling which is to “bridge the gap” between mind and body enabling her to train and empower people letting them know that “we have something more to offer to you and it’s not prescriptions: It’s your mind power which can heal you.”

Hypnotherapy – is a therapeutic practice that uses guided hypnosis to help a client reach a trance-like state of focus, concentration, diminished peripheral awareness and heightened suggestibility. In it, a person is unusually responsive to an idea or image, but they are not under anyone’s “control.” Instead, a trained clinical hypnotherapist can help clients in this state relax and turn their attention inward to discover and utilize resources within themselves that can help them achieve desired behavioral changes or better manage pain or other physical concerns.
The American Psychological Association and American Medical Association have recognized hypnotherapy as a valid procedure since 1958, and the National Institutes of Health has recommended it as a treatment for chronic pain since 1995. Hypnosis has been used instead of anesthetics to decrease pain and anxiety before and after surgery. It also seems to boost healing from many conditions including epilepsy, neuralgia, rheumatism, and skin conditions.
Under the guidance of a trained healthcare professional, hypnosis can be used to ease pain, treat autoimmune diseases, combat phobias, and break bad habits, such as smoking and overeating. Hypnosis can also help people cope with negative emotional states like stress and anxiety, as well as pain, fatigue, insomnia, mood disorders, and more.
