San Diego City Council President Joe LaCava kicked off the City of San Diego’s 51st annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program on Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Miramar Greenery at 5180 Convoy St.
Representatives from the City’s Environmental Services Department (ESD) also provided details about the program, which features 16 locations around the City where residents can drop off their Christmas trees to be recycled for free from Dec. 26 through Jan. 16, 2025. San Diegans also have the option to place trees in their green bin, after making sure it fits and the lid closes completely. Since the City rolled out its green bins citywide two years ago, it has collected over 420 tons of Christmas trees from curbside and drop-off locations (excluding the Miramar Greenery).
“We encourage residents to bring their clean, undecorated Christmas trees to any of our 16 drop-off locations within the city or place their tree in their green bin,” said Council President LaCava. “Recycling these trees helps reduce the amount of waste going into the Miramar Landfill. It also helps the City meet its sustainability goals by converting the trees into high-quality mulch and compost that residents can pick up for free at the Miramar Greenery.”
