Arenal de Gomez FC will face off against Escondido FC on Saturday, Dec. 3 at San Diego Mesa College in the UPSL Southern California South Region semifinal. This will be the second meeting between the two sides this season with the first one ending in a 0-0 draw on Nov. 20 as the regular season finale, which sealed the top seed along with a first-round bye for ADG FC.
Escondido FC earned its trip to the semifinal by beating Nomads SC on Sunday night and finishing the regular season with a 5-1-4 record with its only loss coming against Murrieta Soccer Academy on Oct. 29. ADG FC finished the regular season with an 8-1-1 record and an eight-game unbeaten streak with its only defeat coming versus Nomads SC on Sept. 17.
The team, led by head coach Ray Gutierrez, has outscored its opponents 49 to 16 over its 10 games led by forwards Cesar Romero and Lorenzo Ramirez.
The winner of the match between ADG FC and Escondido FC will take on the winner of Rebels SC and Murrieta Soccer Academy. The UPSL national finals are scheduled to take place the first week of February 2023. The Southern California South Region semifinal against Escondido FC on Saturday kicks off at 5 p.m. at San Diego Mesa College.
