Albion San Diego will look for revenge at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium on Saturday when the team, led by head coach Diego Gomez, takes on the defending champion Michigan Stars in a rematch of last year’s NISA final.
Albion San Diego is coming off an impressive 2-0 victory over Salt City Union on June 18 after a hard-fought scoreless draw against the Maryland Bobcats on June 15.
The Stars are undefeated this season and are coming off back-to-back wins over the Savannah Clovers and Maryland Bobcats while not giving up a goal since its 2-1 victory versus Gold Star FC Detroit on April 14.
Albion is tied for third place in points with LA Force both with 14 but with Los Angeles enjoying a better goal differential while Michigan sits in fifth place with 11 points but has only played five matches after its most recent game against Club de Lyon was postponed.
The Stars come into the match with the best defense in the league only giving up two goals so far this season while Albion comes in with only one defeat in its last five games. The last time Michigan came to San Diego was on Sept. 10 when Albion handed the visitors a 3-0 defeat, which was its worst loss of 2022 when the Stars lost 3-0 to Detroit City FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on April 5.
The defending NISA champions also made one trip to Canyon Crest Academy in 2021 when San Diego 1904 FC come out with a dramatic 2-1 victory scoring both of its goals in the final seven minutes. Albion San Diego will finish off its current four-game home stand on July 8 against LA Force.
