Albion San Diego came out with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Daytona Stadium versus Club de Lyon on Tuesday, May 30 to move the team into second place in the NISA standings.
Albion fell behind in the 26th-minute courtesy of a penalty kick conversion from Club de Lyon forward Ignacio Ten Lopez after a foul inside the box was called on striker Jonathan Bazaes. Lopez has scored four goals over the last two games after his hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Gold Star FC Detroit on May 21.
The team, led by head coach Diego Gomez, created scoring chances throughout the match and was able to keep the Club de Lyon offense in check for the remaining 64 minutes plus added time thanks to great defending and another standout performance from goalkeeper Ben Roach.
Albion was able to tie the game in the 86th minute when midfielder Daniel Bedoya executed a perfect free-kick that found the head of teammate Heath Martin who flicked the ball with his head in the back of the net. Just when it seemed that both teams would settle for a draw, Bedoya took a right-footed shot in the 91st minute from practically the same spot as the free-kick and angled the ball by the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Josue Mazon.
The victory gives Albion San Diego 10 points after six matches and back-to-back victories after a convincing 4-1 road win over the Savannah Clovers on May 27. Albion has one more game versus Club de Lyon in Orlando before returning home to face the Maryland Bobcats on June 15. Albion San Diego has now scored six of its eight goals this season over the last two matches while only giving up two goals thanks to a 4-1 blowout of the Savannah Clovers on May 27.
