Albion San Diego got back in the win column on Wednesday night after a 4-0 drubbing of the Savannah Clovers at LA Harbor College.
Albion created the better chances throughout the match eventually capitalizing in the 41st thanks to a penalty kick conversion by captain Tyler Gabarra after a handball inside the box was called on defender Mikal Greene. That earned Greene his second yellow card and gave the team, led by head coach Diego Gomez, a one-man advantage.
Albion kept up the pressure in the second half not allowing the visitors any clear scoring chances on goalkeeper Ben Roach who earned his ninth clean sheet of the season. Albion extended the lead in the 69th minute when midfielder Daniel Bedoya got between two Savannah defenders and was able to poke the ball past the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Jack Pondy.
The Clovers were already down to nine players at that point after Ford Hunt received a straight red card for taking down midfielder Ronaldo Pineda in the 62nd minute. Albion San Diego continued to be relentless in the attack with midfielder Corey Lundeen extending the lead in the 78th minute once he blew by the Savannah backline and poked the ball with the right foot just over the head of Pondy.
The onslaught came to an end in the 83rd minute when forward Jonathan Bazaes scored an absolute golazo with a shot from outside the box that found the top corner of the net.
The victory gives Albion San Diego 33 points just one point behind the second seed LA Force, which has played one less game. Albion will not be able to rest on its laurels since it has another match at LA Harbor College, this time versus Gold Star FC Detroit on Sept. 24, before facing Bay Area United FC at Championship Soccer Stadium in the NISA Independent Cup final.
