Albion San Diego will face off with the Savannah Clovers on Sunday at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium as the team, led by head coach Diego Gomez, looks to close the gap with the first-seed Chattanooga FC in the NISA standings.
Albion hasn’t played a match since its scoreless home draw with LA Force on Aug. 13 as the scheduled game versus Michigan Stars planned for Aug. 20 was postponed due to Tropical Storm Hilary. Savannah is coming off a 2-2 draw against Club de Lyon on Aug. 19 and a 1-0 win over the Maryland Bobcats on Aug. 12.
Albion San Diego beat Savannah the last time the two sides met on May 27 by a score of 4-1 having lost just one of its previous nine matches led by the outstanding goalkeeping of Ben Roach and his seven clean sheets so far this season.
The Clovers currently sit in last place of the NISA table with nine points after 15 games while Albion is in second place with 28 points in its 16 matches trying to catch up with undefeated Chattanooga FC, which leads the league with 38 points.
Chattanooga FC and Albion San Diego will face each other for the third and final time this regular season on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium in a game that could have had enormous implications for postseason seeding. Albion is looking to make a repeat appearance in the NISA Final while Savannah is looking to get into the top six in order to clinch a playoff birth as the team from Georgia currently plays its rookie NISA season.
