Date: Tuesday, April 8, 15, 22 and 29
Time: 12 – 3 p.m.
Title: Ikebana Floral Design
Location: Community Room
Description: Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form that breathes life into each composition, harmonizing the elements of nature and humanity. Learn to create these stunning pieces of art that intertwine Japanese culture and the changing of the seasons. By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both every day and special occasions. Contact Prof. Takeya for more information at [email protected]. This class is free and open to the public. You may register when you attend the class.
Audience: Adults, Seniors

Date: Tuesdays, April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29
Time: 4 – 5 p.m.
Title: Chess Club
Location: Homeschool Resource Center
Description:
Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess or improve your skills? If you have never played before, or are just looking for someone to practice with, join us for some friendly competition!  All supplies are provided.
Audience: Recommended for elementary school-aged children through adults.

Thursdays, April 3, 10, 17 and 24
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Title: Toddler and Preschool Storytime
Location: Community Room
Description: Recommended for ages 2-5, this storytime program includes books, songs, games, and early literacy fun! A to-go craft will be provided at the end.
Audience: Young children

Time: 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Title: Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance
Location: Community Room
Description: Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance is a 10-step form that does not require memorization and can be performed seated. This class emphasizes improving breath, mind, and body co-ordination/function to prevent falls while increasing safety in activities of daily living. Wear flat supportive shoes and loose comfortable clothing.
Audience: Adults

Date: Friday, April 4
Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Title: American Red Cross Blood Drive
Location: Community Room

Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Title: Body Dynamics, by San Diego Continuing Education
Description: This class provides students with an understanding of the Breath-Mind-Body dynamic and its relationship to health and wellness during the aging process.  Students learn breathing techniques for self-care, mental resilience, and physical relaxation as they age.  Please wear flat supportive shoes and loose, comfortable clothing.
Audience: Adults

Date: Mondays, April 7, 14, 21 and 28
Time: 5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
Title: Meditation for a Happy Life
Location: Community Room
Description: Learn and practice meditation, improve harmony at home and at work, and build your wisdom and inner peace. This secular and modern approach to traditional Buddhist teachings is led by Ashley Davis, co-founder of The Center for Harmonious Living.
Audience: Adult

Date: Tuesday, April 8
Time: 11:30 a.m.
Title: Learn to Weave for Kids and Teens
Description: Learn how to weave with an expert textile artist from the San Diego Creative Weavers Guild! This class is targeted to homeschooling youth ages 8+. No prior experience required, and all materials will be provided.Registration is required! You can register online at Sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience:
Recommended for kids ages 8+.

Time: 10:30 a.m.
Title: Cultural Storytime and Craft for Younger Kids
Description: Join us for a fun and simple craft on Saturday morning, geared for ages 3-6. Registration is required below. You can register online at Sandiego.librarymarket.com. If you would like to come but the registration list is already full, we will accept walk-ins based on availability of materials.
Audience:
Recommended for kids ages 3-6.

Date: Monday, April 14
Time: 4 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
Title: Teen Book Club
Location: Homeschool Resource Center
Description: Get ready for a great discussion featuring a book targeted to middle schoolers. Plus enjoy snacks! A free copy of the selected book will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis to those who plan to attend the club. This month we will discuss the book Hoot, by Carl Hiaasen.
Audience: This program is recommended for tweens and teens ages 12-14

Date: Tuesday, April 15
Time: 1:30 p.m.
Title: Introduction to Robotics Using Micro:bits
Description:
Interested in learning robotics and computer programming? Then this class is for you! Participants will learn to program the Micro:bit microcontroller, a fun hand-held computer used to make robots! In addition to being small and portable, Micro:bits interact with each other, allowing students to write programs with friends during this fun, educational, and physically active class, led by The League of Amazing Programmers. Registration is required.You can register online at sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: Recommended for kids ages 9-14.

Date: Wednesday, April 23
Time: 4 p.m.
Title: Animal Tracker: Learn How to Track Snakes Using Radio Telemetry
Description: Learn how scientists track snakes in the wild using radio signals! Engage in hands-on activities using radio transmitters and receivers to track and record data (such as GPS coordinates, temperature) and use that data to learn about the local wildlife and habitat. Registration is required. You can register online at Sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: Recommended for kids ages 8+.

Date: Saturday, April 26
Time: 11 a.m.
Title: Once Upon a Library: Celebrate Día with Fairy Tales from Around the World
Description: Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros is an annual global celebration that honors children and books. This year, Mission Valley Library will host a Día party focused on international fairy tales. Enjoy crafts, games, and face-painting! This program is recommended for babies through age 9. We encourage fairy tale costume attire! No registration is required.
In addition, the San Diego State University Language Lab will offer speech and language resources for families. Special thanks to the Friends of the MissionValley Library for financial support.
Audience: Recommended for kids ages 0-9.
