Art in the Park will return with over a dozen of the Point Loma Artists showcasing their original artworks on Saturday, Aug. 9 ” all at a new venue in the courtyards of Liberty Station in Point Loma.
The art will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the courtyard patio behind Trader Joe’s, at the corner of Truxtun and Womble roads, and in the courtyard patio next to La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill at the corner of Historic Decatur and Womble roads, according to organizers.
Art in the Park is a public showcase and sales event promoting an array of styles and media of artwork including acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings; collages; Gyotaku fish printing; ceramic and pottery pieces; paper maché and clay sculpture; and fine art cards and prints.
The artists’ use the event as an avenue to provide a free art show for the community and promote local artists, according to Beverly Brady, a Point Loma Artists member and Art in the Park participant.
“We really look forward to this free summertime event to show our community what some of their local artists are doing,” said Brady.
The artists have diverse backgrounds in art, according to Brady. From continuing childhood pastimes to various degrees and careers in art-related studies, the artists bring a mix of experience and passion.
This will be the eighth annual Art in the Park event. In the past, the event has been held at two Point Loma parks, but a suggestion that the Point Loma Artists host an art show in the courtyards of Liberty Station resulting in the change of venue, Brady said.
“We hope that the art show will bring customers in to see what’s new in the beautifully restored Liberty Station Marketplace,” said Brady. “We consider this an art show where everyone is welcome to just come, browse and enjoy the show.”
