The end is in sight to some infrastructure construction along La Jolla’s business-intensive Avenida de la Playa thoroughfare, with six of nine sewer lines between Calle de la Plata and El Paseo Grande streets having been installed. The remaining lines will be laid through the week of March 9 – the start date of a new phase of work on Avenida, this time between El Paseo Grande and Paseo del Ocaso streets. Construction there will mean a 24-hour closure of Avenida for four weeks. Sidewalks will remain open to allow access to businesses, and signage signaling that businesses are open will be put in place. Phase 2 of this construction, set between March 30 and April 17, will involve 24-hour closure of Avenida between Paseo del Ocaso Street and La Jolla Shores Drive. The dates may be adjusted amid the current sewer line installation. Infrastructure work in the area, the topic of some heated discussion about the city’s encroachment on the area, began in September and is scheduled to end around Memorial Day.
