The Friends of Del Cerro (FODC) has continued to work with the staff of the City of San Diego Gas Tax Median Maintenance Program. This has resulted in the first phase of their project to improve the College Avenue Median between I-8 and Del Cerro Blvd was recently initiated including the planting of geraniums, shrubs and ground cover.
We greatly appreciate the City of San Diego’s Park and Recreation Department and the Gas Tax Median Maintenance Program staff for helping us begin improvements to Del Cerro’s “front porch.”
We are also working with the City’s Park and Recreation Department to upgrade and repair the Princess Del Cerro Playground and the brick area in front of the playground. We anticipate having more information to share with everyone in our article in the June issue of the Mission Times Courier.
On April 22, Bob Hickman, chair of the FODC Crime & Safety Committee, held a very successful Neighborhood Watch meeting for the Hearst Area to establish a new Neighborhood Watch.
Bob was fortunate enough to have Rob Raynor, the San Diego Police Department’s community relations officer for the Navajo Area attend and provide a thorough presentation on the specifics of having a successful Neighborhood Watch program.
For anyone interested in learning more about establishing a viable Neighborhood Watch program for their neighborhood, contact Bob through the “Contact Us” section of the friendsofdelcerro.org website.
The FODC, on behalf of the residents of Del Cerro, and the surrounding area, would like to thank our councilmember, Raul Campillo, for his on-going effort to secure the resurfacing of a number of streets in Del Cerro and our adjoining Navajo neighborhoods.
