ITSA Bike Shop at NTC Liberty Station Park at Cushing Street and Womble Road recently rallied local San Diegans to do their part in aiding the victims in the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone was the deadliest on record, killing at least 5,500 people, leaving millions homeless. On Nov. 16, ITSA?Bike Shop organized a Benefit Ride and Pot Luck as part of an organized riding event around Point Loma, Downtown and Mission Bay to raise funds, clean shoes and blankets for the Philippine’s Red Cross at www.redcross.org.ph/donate.
Bike shop owner and event organizer Eric Camerino said 170 riders participated and 44 boxes of donated goods containing a mix of food, clothing, blankets, shoes, childrens’ toys, diapers and medical supplies were collected, along with $3,262 in monetary donations for relief efforts.
