“No family should ever have to experience what mine did last year: a terrifying car incident with my infant son Rafael in the back seat,” said Campillo. “However, thanks to a properly installed car seat, Rafael is still with us. I want all San Diego residents to know that they can take advantage of free car seat inspections provided by AMR.”
Just under one year ago, Campillo, along with his wife Nadia Farjood and infant son Rafael, were involved in a serious car accident. Days before Christmas 2023, a drunk driver struck Campillo’s vehicle going approximately 65 miles per hour and subsequently fled the scene. Campillo, who is a former DUI prosecutor himself, held a press conference before New Year’s to call on San Diegans to be responsible and not drive under the influence.
“All families deserve to have the peace of mind that should an accident happen, their child will be safely secured,” said Eric Nixon, Community Relations Coordinator at American Medical Response. “That’s why AMR provides 100% free car seat checks to families by request and at regular events around San Diego County. AMR is proud to partner with Councilmember Campillo on our shared goal of making our community safer.”
According to American Medical Response, child car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants under 1 year old and 54% for toddlers 1 to 4 years old. AMR also provides this service at various events around San Diego County and by appointment. To schedule an appointment, residents can email [email protected].
Campillo represents the Seventh Council District of the City of San Diego and serves as the Chair of the Economic Development & Intergovernmental Relations Committee.
