San Diego Wave FC has made several off-season moves, including signing a new head coach, Jonas Eidevall, and bringing in several young, talented players. However, they will no longer have some familiar faces on the pitch in 2025.
The losses of forward Jaedyn Shaw to the North Carolina Courage and defender Naomi Girma, who now plays in Europe for Chelsea, will probably be the most noticeable for a team that managed to score just 24 goals last season missing the playoffs for the first time in three years.
The Wave now knows who it will be playing this season and it starts Sunday, March 16 on the road against rival Angel City, followed by the home opener at Snapdragon Stadium versus the Royals on Saturday, March 22. Three of its next four games will be on the road against the defending champion Orlando Pride, Racing Louisville, and Chicago Stars with a home match on April 12 versus the Kansas City Current.
The Wave will then play host to Bay FC on Sunday, May 4, and the Portland Thorns on Saturday, May 10 before traveling to take on Gotham FC on Friday, May 16, and returning to San Diego to face the North Carolina Courage on Sunday, May 25 (Shaw’s new team), and the Seattle Reign on Friday, June 6.
This NWSL season begins with the Challenge Cup on Friday, March 7 with a rematch of the NWSL Championship between Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit followed by opening weekend on March 14. For the full San Diego Wave regular season schedule, visit sandiegowavefc.com.
