As graduation nears, Mission Bay High School students are closing the books in the classroom and have wrapped things up on the field. Beach & Bay Press checked in with boys’ golf coach Joe Panian and new softball coach Lynsey Littlefield to get the scoop on the just-concluded season. Boys’ golf Q: What impressed you most about your team this season? Panian: What impressed me the most was how the team embraced the sport, only picking the sport up this year or last year (all of the players except one). Q: What were some of the highlights of the season? Panian: The highlight of the season was when Brandon Grisham and Brett Daly made it to City’s and Brandon making it to the second round. Q: Who are your graduating seniors? Panian: We do not have any graduating seniors. We are an extremely young team, consisting mostly of freshmen and sophomores. Q: Any parting words? Panian: The boys are a fun group to work with and I am looking forward to seeing them continue to improve over the next year. Girls’ softball Q: What were some of the highlights of the season? Littlefield: Brooke Wickersheim made some amazing plays at third base, as did Tiffany Henderson behind the plate. Michaela Saili hit a few home runs. Q: Who are your graduating seniors? Littlefield: Vivian Garcia, Erin Plannert and Alyssa Singleton. Q: What impressed you most about your team this season? Littlefield: The girls had great attitudes and played with a lot of heart to finish the season. Q: Any parting words? Littlefield: The future of the program looks promising. We are bringing in a new staff next year and are looking forward to some talented eighth-graders and supportive and involved parents coming to MB from the PB area. Can’t wait to revamp the program and develop a successful program.
