With Mother’s Day (May 11) around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to shower the incredible women in your life with extra love and appreciation. And there is no better place to spend this special day than in East Village, a neighborhood filled with one-of-a-kind restaurants, shops and fun activities.

Morning brunch

Brunch is a way to a mom’s heart and East Village has tons of spots to start Mother’s Day off right.

For a classic brunch experience, Breakfast Republic is a go-to destination. Known for its fun vibes and wide-ranging menu, it’s perfect whether you’re planning an intimate brunch or a lively group gathering.

If you’re after something more low-key but just as tasty, Eggies is right around the corner. This casual grab-and-go breakfast spot serves up hearty, satisfying bites that are perfect for a relaxed start to the day.

Izola Bakery is redefining San Diego’s pastry game with its next-level croissants and sourdough, made from ultra-premium ingredients and baked fresh. Their sourdough variations—crafted with nothing but organic flour, water, sea salt, and their signature leaven—are as pure as it gets. And their croissant assortments, made with Normandy butter, organic flour, free-range eggs, and California milk, are rich, flaky, and unforgettable.

For another memorable Mother’s Day brunch option, head to The Mission, a local favorite known for its mouthwatering chilaquiles. This dish, featuring crispy tortilla chips, a flavorful roasted tomato ginger sauce, and perfectly scrambles eggs, is a must-try. With its vibrant atmosphere and delicious menu, The Mission offers the perfect setting to celebrate the special women in your life.

Afternoon fun

East Village is also packed with daytime activities that your mom will love to share with friends and family.

Enjoy a day at Tavern + Bowl, where you can enjoy delicious bites, an energetic atmosphere, and a little friendly competition at the bowling alley. It’s a great way to bond, laugh, and see who’s got the best bowling skills. Punch Bowl Social is another hotspot this Mother’s Day for those looking to kick back and play some games like ping-pong, foosball, cornhole and many more.

A few blocks away, Gallagher Square at Petco Park offers a relaxing spot to soak in the spirit of the beloved San Diego Padres.

With its recent renovations, the park now features expansive green spaces perfect for picnicking, playing, and relaxing. It’s an ideal place to unwind and enjoy some quality time with mom right in the heart of East Village.

Evening meals

Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop serves up an unforgettable dining experience with a menu blending contemporary American fare and a western twist. With fresh, locally sourced ingredients, it’s the perfect place to indulge and celebrate with the family for a late lunch or dinner.

For a taste of Italy right in the heart of East Village, Monzu Fresh Pasta is a charming spot that will take mom on a flavorful journey. Their handmade pasta is a true celebration of Italy’s rich culinary traditions, and it’s the ideal place for creating memories over a delicious meal.

If you’re looking for something nationally acclaimed, Lola 55 offers a Michelin-recognized dining experience with bold, flavorful tacos and other Mexican delights. From savory options like Squash Blossom Relleno to sweet treats like Churros, it’s the perfect spot to end the day on a high note with mom.

For a flavorful and unique Mother’s Day celebration, Lotus Thai is the perfect spot. Known for its vibrant, aromatic dishes, Lotus Thai offers an array of mouthwatering options like the bold Drunken Noodles, creamy Panang Curry, and the fragrant Holy Basil stir-fry. With its cozy atmosphere and authentic Thai flavors, it’s a great choice to treat mom to something delicious and unforgettable this Mother’s Day.

Wrap up the day with something sweet from one of East Village’s many dessert spots. The neighborhood offers a wide variety—from classic cakes and Southern specialties to Japanese-inspired confections. Local favorites like Hinar, Hey Sugar (inside Tavern + Bowl), and Asa Bakery serve up treats that are the perfect ending to a memorable Mother’s Day.

The 3rd Annual Taste of East Village returns this May
