The City of Santee is celebrating Veterans Day, Nov. 11, in a few ways this year.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the Santee Hometown Heroes Banners self-guided walkthrough; the walkthrough guide can be found on the City’s website or the flyer box at the Veterans Memorial Monument (9085 Fanita Pkwy, Santee).
The guide lists names, ranks, service years, and military branches of the heroes who are displayed on the banners on the Veterans Memorial Bridge. A list of everyone ever displayed on a Santee Hometown Heroes banner can be found on the City’s website at CityofSanteeCA.gov.
In honors of Veterans Day, the Veterans Memorial Monument will also be decorated with a floral arrangement. The Santee VFW Post 9327, American Legion and the American Legion Riders will be performing a small flag raising ceremony on Nov. 11 at 11:11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Monument.
The City wants to recognize those who have served in the United States Armed Forces for protecting the country and preserving freedom.
For those wishing to honor a veteran they know in a unique way, apply for the Santee Hometown Heroes Banner Program, which honors active duty and veterans who live in or are affiliated with Santee.
