The Jack in the Box “Hoops at the Beach” 3-on-3 basketball tournament (#HoopsAtTheBeach) – the largest of its kind in San Diego – returns to Bonita Cove Park in Mission Bay on May 2 and 3. The 28th annual event attracts teams from all over San Diego, and serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit San Diego Bowl Game Association.
In addition to 3-on-3 tournament action and the San Diego County Kia Retailers Slam Dunk Contest, fans can participate in the San Diego Chargers 3-Point Shootout and the UTC Aerospace Systems Free Throw Challenge over both days.
Event organizers also announced that San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd will serve as a celebrity judge for the San Diego County Kia Retailers Slam Dunk Contest. Floyd will be on site for the competition, free to all participants, on center court at noon on Saturday, May 2.
Registration is currently open for the 3-on-3 tournament. The final entry deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, May 1.
Competition is open to all ages and skill levels. A team entry fee includes at least two games in double elimination or round-robin play. There are 12 divisions for boys and men, six divisions for girls and women, a co-ed division and a wheelchair division. There are age divisions for both genders ranging from third to 12th grade. Men can compete in the Elite, 6-0 and under, 6-3 and under, Men’s Open, Masters (30 and over), Super Masters (40 and over), and Senior Masters (50 and over) divisions. Women can also compete in the Women’s Open division. Kids divisions third through eighth grade will play Sunday only.

Food trucks will be on site throughout the weekend, including SuperQ, InSlider, Fresh Fit & Beyond, and New Orleans food trucks.
This event serves as a fundraiser for the non-profit San Diego Bowl Game Association, a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to generate tourism, exposure, economic benefit and civic pride for San Diego and its citizens by producing a college football bowl game and festival of events.
