College Area resident Sarah Sullivan recently won the Best of Miniatures award, in the San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) May Member’s exhibition “Untamed”, an in-gallery show of the SDWS at 2825 Dewey Road in Liberty Station.
The painting was selected for this honor out of more than 215 entries by prominent local artist and juror Mark Smith.
Sullivan’s painting is titled “Together in the Tidepools”. Smith commented “The technique with the opaque paint is beautiful, and it features great contrasts with the darks and the lights for value, and the cools and the warms for feeling. It is very well executed and has a nice composition. Beautiful painting!”
Sullivan had a satisfying career as a teacher, principal, and a county Principal-in-Residence. She lives in San Diego with her husband, enjoys family and friends, reads enthusiastically, travels, and keeps her sketchbook at hand. She has shown her work frequently, winning awards, at the San Diego Watercolor Society. Her work can be found at her blog, https://deliberatesketch.com/
The SDWS Gallery Exhibit will run through Saturday June 1, at the SDWS gallery in Liberty Station, and is free to the public.
Paintings can be viewed and purchased directly from the gallery, and are also available to view and purchase on the SDWS website at: https://www.sdws.org/galleryart.php?cat=7045
